How I Set Myself Up for Success Post-Surgery

How I set myself up for success post-surgery - woman doing physical therapy exercises

The best thing I did for my post-surgery recovery, besides rest, was physical therapy.

My doctors recommended a specialist in lymphedema prevention, and luckily, I found one just minutes from my home.

Attending therapy 1-2 times a week for a few months helped me regain strength, mobility, and flexibility in my arms and chest after my double mastectomy surgery. During that surgery I also had 3 lymph nodes removed from my armpit, which could make me more susceptible to experiencing lymphedema in my arm. My physical therapist understood that and provided personalized care, consulted colleagues, and ensured I had the best treatment.

Knowing the facility I chose specialized in Breast Cancer Recovery & Rehabilitation, made me feel supported and more confident in my progress.

They even callout their commitment to breast cancer survivors on their website:

“Our goal is to restore function and teach self-management strategies early in the post-mastectomy recovery process.”

Thanks to physical therapy, I healed well and regained full range of motion. And because I saw the same physical therapist each week for several months, I developed a new relationship that allowing me to openly express my concerns and heal emotionally too.

Sometimes, we need extra support from others to achieve the best outcomes. 🌈
