National Hereditary Cancer Week: Supporting Cancer Previvors

BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations have a 45-65% risk of breast cancer

Did you know…

Inherited gene mutations cause approximately 5-10% of all cancers, and women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations have a 45-65% risk of breast cancer?

And, most inherited breast cancers are linked to mutations in those genes.

What’s even more surprising is that UP TO 90% of people who have an inherited mutation aren’t aware of their cancer risk or medical options.

Those living with a gene mutation but without cancer are called PREVIVORS—a “survivor of a predisposition to cancer.”

The good news is that previvors have medical options to manage their cancer risks which may include:

  • 🔎 Enhanced screenings to catch cancer early

  • 💊 Medications & lifestyle changes

  • 🏥 Preventive surgeries

  • 🔬 Participation in clinical trials

Know your risk. Manage your risk. You are not alone. 🤗
