The Skill That Changed My Career and My Health

I learned a long time ago the wisest thing I can do is be on my own side, be an advocate for myself and others like me.
— MAYA ANGELOU

The most powerful skill I’ve learned as an adult is the one that has changed both my career and my health for the better.

Self-advocacy 💪

Each time I’ve advocated for myself at work, I’ve been met with opportunities that have led to multiple promotions.

A New Self-Advocacy Lens

In 2023, when I found a lump in my breast, I trusted my instincts and pushed for fast care. My incredible medical team stood beside me, and today I’m cancer-free.

Recently, when medication side effects started to escalate, I listened to my body again and asked for answers.

An ultrasound caught something early that can be addressed with a simple procedure I’ll be having this week—and with it comes the peace of mind of staying ahead of my health.

Self-advocacy isn’t selfish. It’s self-respect.

And it might be the most important way you ever show up for yourself. 💖
