Two Septembers in a row (2023 & 2024), I spent the end of the month preparing for breast cancer related surgeries.

After my double mastectomy, I shared 6 products I bought that made recovery easier.

But I also learned that getting your home ready in advance can make a huge difference in how smoothly recovery goes.

Here are 5 things that I did before surgery that set me up for success:

1️⃣ Mission “laundry zero” – wash as many clothes, towels, & sheets as possible so you’re covered for a week+
2️⃣ Stock up on disposable kitchenware – keep paper plates, bowls, cups, & utensils low & within reach
3️⃣ Plan meals – setting up freezer meals, delivery, or a meal train = no cooking stress
4️⃣ Create recovery zones – fill baskets with self-care essentials, water, snacks, & device chargers
5️⃣ Keep your mind busy – line up books, puzzles, shows, or a journal within reach to prevent feeling stir-crazy

By preparing your home first, you give yourself one job after surgery: to heal ❤️‍🩹
