How the Right Mentor Makes the Unknown Less Scary

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39, I craved connection with someone who had truly been in my shoes—a married mom of young kids, managing a team at work, facing a similar diagnosis and treatment.

I needed more than sympathy.
I needed guidance, hope, and proof that I could get through *this.*

Recently, as I worked toward a promotion at work, I found myself seeking something similar. I wanted to connect with a woman thriving in the role I was aiming for. Someone who could share not just how she got there, but how she stayed strong and successful.

The key to success at work and in life: how the right mentor makes the unknown less scary

The Key to Success at Work and In Life

In both moments, what I needed was a mentor

Someone to offer wisdom, encouragement, and perspective through uncharted territory.

I’ve learned that mentorship isn’t just about supporting others, it’s also an education in how to support yourself.

The best mentors don’t just point to the finish line, they run alongside you until you cross it.
