The Unexpected Gift That Comes from Crisis
“Not everything that comes out of crisis is bad. Sometimes your traumas are the reason you know how to help.”
The best part of any book is when a character says something that speaks to your soul, and this quote from “Just for the Summer” did exactly that for me recently.
Then and Now
Over the past three years, the dozens of books I’ve read have been everything from a source of support to a much-needed escape especially during breast cancer treatment. And along the way, I’ve been inspired by the stories of both fictional characters and real-life public figures.
When I was diagnosed, everything felt overwhelming and impossible to get through without my support squad.
But now, I’m often the first person my friends reach out to for advice, support, and reassurance when someone they know is diagnosed.
I never imagined that would be one of the things to come out of my own crisis.
I didn’t start Positive By Design until a year and a half after my diagnosis, because I never planned to share my story.
But when I realized there were so many people traveling a similar road, I felt compelled to find a way to help them get to their rainbow after the storm now that I had gotten to mine.
Maybe that’s the unexpected gift of a crisis: sometimes, you come out the other side knowing exactly how to help someone else through it. 💕
