Applying My UX Mindset to Life’s Hardest Challenge

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
— RALPH WALDO EMERSON

When we face a new assignment, project, or health challenge, it’s easy to doubt ourselves.

I found I had the same questions when I started breast cancer treatment that I ask myself at the beginning of every UX design project I work on:

~ Am I capable of doing this?
~ What do I need to get started?
~ Who can help me along the way?
~ How will I know I’m making progress?

During 14 months of active treatment, I found the answers using the same approach I take at work: take a deep breath, make a plan, and trust my strength.

I told myself “I can do this.”

I leaned on my support squad for help and shared wisdom.

And milestone by milestone, I felt proof of the progress I was making and my growing resilience.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Whatever you’re facing today, trust what’s inside you—it really is greater than what’s behind or ahead. ✨
