This week, I had appointments with my dermatologist and breast cancer plastic surgeon.
While doctor visits can be scary for some people, cancer taught me something important: avoiding the unknown doesn’t protect your health. Catching problems early is what makes all the difference.
I learned to advocate for myself during treatment, and realized I should have been doing it all along. Now, regular checkups, self-exams, and mirror checks are habits… not things I second-guess.
3 Simple Ways to Ease Appointment Anxiety
So how do I make all my appointments a little less scary?
✨ Before: Prepare questions, block my calendar, and listen to happy music or an audio book on the way there.
✨ During: Remind myself that I’m more likely to have a good appointment than a bad one, and there is nothing I (a survivor 💪) can’t handle.
✨ After: Reward myself with something small, just for me: a coffee, going out to lunch, a new book, or even just a making time for a walk.
Every time that you take care of yourself today, you’re giving your future self a precious gift: peace of mind. ☺️
Remember, YOU deserve the same care and compassion that you give to others.
What’s one small thing you can do for yourself this week?
