Rising Rates of Breast Cancer in Women Under 45
Did you know that breast cancer rates among women under 45 increased by about 1% every year in the U.S. from 2012–2022?
And they’re still trending upward today.
While women under 45 make up only about 10% of all new breast cancer cases each year, the rise has been especially sharp in some groups.
Over the past 13 years, rates have increased more among American Indian or Alaska Native women (2.1%) and Asian and Pacific Islander women (1.3%) than in other racial and ethnic groups.
These numbers are a powerful reminder that breast cancer doesn’t only affect older women. Even if your personal risk is lower, breast awareness matters. That’s why it’s so important to be vigilant:
✋ Know what’s normal for you & perform regular breast self-exams
🩺 Talk to your doctor about your risk factors & family history, and
💖 Remember: while healthy habits can help lower risk, early detection saves lives of all ages.
The good news is that treatments are improving and mortality rates are declining—proof that awareness and early action truly make a difference.
