Learning to Set Worry Down and Keep Moving Forward

I learned long ago that worrying never helps anything.

This week Dick Van Dyke turns 100 years old; that’s 100 years of wisdom, and a lot that we can all learn from.

So. Much. Worrying.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I did a lot of worrying… and it never helped.

Worry didn’t get me through treatment.
It didn’t bring hope or comfort.
It didn’t change the outcome.

But at the time, I didn’t know any other way to cope with the fear and uncertainty. So I worried.

I’ve since learned that worry is our body’s attempt to protect us—preparing for the worst if something bad happens.

*IF*

Most of the time, things actually turn out better than we imagine.

That doesn’t mean the road is easy, but worrying only adds stress that makes it harder to eat, sleep, and rest. The very things our bodies need most when we’re facing any battle.

So take a moment to feel whatever you’re feeling, and then put it aside and take one step forward.

That’s one step away from worry, and one step closer to a positive life.
