Halloween Humor: Turning My Post-Chemo Hair into Some Killer 80s Looks

When your hair grows back after chemo it’s exciting… and weird.

The texture is usually different than it was before chemo, and it can grow at different rates. For example, the hair on the top half of my head has been growing more slowly, causing what many call a post-chemo mullet.

Some of you may think I’m exaggerating because other photos I’ve posted show my hair styled nicely with headbands or pulled back with hair clips. But the reality is that both of those things are ways I’ve creatively compensated for a less-than-ideal hair style while anxiously waiting and hoping for my hair to grow faster. Hair regrowth after chemo requires a lot of patience.

Current reality:

I’ve been trimming my “party in the back” for over a year, but my hair often still gives me 80s vibes.

So, over the past few months, I decided to have a little fun and embrace the short “business in the front” to recreate some 80s-themed looks for Halloween.

Check out how I transformed my short, fluffy, and choppy hair into:

  • Velma Dinkley from Scooby-Doo

  • Steve Harrington from Stranger Things &

  • Joan Jett, American Rock Star

Which look is your fave?
