Cancer Survival Rates are Up!
I love starting the new year with hopeful news like the headline going around this week…
According to the American Cancer Society’s latest annual report, 7 in 10 people now survive 5 years or more after a cancer diagnosis. 🎗️🎉
That 70% is a big improvement since the 1970s when the rate was around 50%, and even up from the mid-1990s when the rate was 63%.
Even Better Rates for Breast Cancer Survivors
Breast cancer 5-year survival rates are especially encouraging:
✨ 87% for regional stage (spread to lymph nodes, etc)
✨ 92% across all stages combined
✨ >99% when detected at a localized stage (not spread beyond the breast)
These numbers represent millions of lives impacted, more time with loved ones, and more moments that matter.
And while advances in treatment and therapies are largely to thank for these numbers, the biggest lifesaver remains early detection.
I’m living proof of that, and I’m so grateful for the progress that continues to be made. 💖
